WHEN:          2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015

WHY:             Dr. Amos Brown, President of the San Francisco NAACP, NAACP officials, and housing rights activists are calling those concerned about social justice and equitable housing to attend the Tuesday, November 17th San Francisco Board of Supervisors meeting.  The landmark legislation, 40% Neighborhood Preference, passed unanimously last week in the Land Use Committee will be considered by the full board of supervisors.

"Everyone concerned about equality should attend Tuesday'smeeting," said Dr. Amos Brown, President of the NAACP.  "If we lose this stabilizing legislation, we fall further down the slippery slope of inequality and injustice."

A set of statistics for one City of San Francisco affordable housing program that indicated approximately 200 Whites, 600 Asians, 140 Latinos and 65 Africans occupy the units, were presented in the Land Use Committee and they demonstrated the disparity caused by the current lottery system.

"The consequences of the lottery system have been devastating to communities, particularly the African-American community, who have been leaving the city at an incredibly alarming rate," said Supervisor Malia Cohen, Chairman of the three-member Land Use Committee. "This is an incredibly bold and important legislation for the residents of San Francisco."  Cohen and the committee of Supervisor Scott Wiener, and Supervisor Jane Kim say the new legislation will be more equitable.  Supervisor London Breed, President of the Board of Supervisors attended the Land Use
Committee and also voiced her support of the legislation.

Supervisor Malia Cohen chairs the powerful Land Use Committee that includes members Supervisors Scott Wiener and Jane Kim. The committee unanimously passed the legislation with input from President of the Board of Supervisors London Breed on November 9, 2015.

THOUGHTS & PRAYERS FOR PARIS

The unique beauty and draw of Paris comes to mind amid the horrific reports of the aftermath of terrorist attacks.  Having covered and presented at the Cannes International Film Festival for over 20 years, Paris, a comforting and enlightening stop, along the way to the Cannes International Film Festival is deep in the heart of this native San Franciscan.

To my family in France and to all my friends that I have met in Paris and Cannes over the years, I pray your safety and that of your family and friends.

For those who have lost friends and family, I pray that you will in time be healed and will not let the light of Paris and France be dimmed by the darkness of November 13, 2015. Know that the U.S. and the world stands with you.
